Providence Centre

Providence Centre is a large long-term care and chronic-care hospital. The complex contains a chapel which seats 600. The client came to Novita for assistance in resolving their problems with the chapel’s sound system.

The chapel is a very high and long room with hard surfaces. Consequently, the reverberation time was about three seconds. Speech intelligibility was extremely poor. A previous solution had introduced a series of distributed loudspeakers along the sides of the room. This solution actually made the problem worse.

Working with acoustician John Swallow, Novita developed a combined sound systems and acoustical treatment solution which addressed and corrected the unique problems of this room.
